Gargoyles and White Rice
After the Musée des Arts Forains, we still had time in the day. This was still December 26. Lucky for us, Adam and Alexandra didn't (seem to) mind playing the role of parents, and Abby and I got to tag along.
Our next destination was Notre-Dame so a number of us could climb the tower. In this modern world there are apps for almost everything, and I think either Abby or Adam found one that allowed us to purchase tickets online on the way. The climb wasn't too bad and the views were amazing.
After Notre-Dame found our way to a corner bistro for some ice cream. We sat outside, but within the plastic-protected area warmed by heat-lamps. (Adam the charmer commented on how lovely Alexandra looked under the glow of those lamps.)
And that was also where we said goodbye to them. I didn't say much about the kids, but our pair were very happy for playmates besides each other for a couple of days. Like their parents, Jonah and Elena are a pleasure to be around--curious, friendly, and fun. We look forward to catching up in Ohio!
The day was coming to a close, and we had one more great adventure. Let me tell you a little secret: Spanish cooking is not that exciting. There's a general aversion to spices and sauces. And though we love Almunecar, it is not a cosmopolitan city with a great variety of options. Now let me tell you something else: Cyrus's favorite food in the whole world is the white cilantro rice you can buy at Chipotle. So, when we saw a Chipotle near our apartment we promised we would go there one night. Three of us would welcome a spicy burrito -- and Cy would love his rice (note his bowl is filled just with rice).

In that photo just above, I believe the main building in the foreground is an old hospital. I learned this from Adam, whose sabbatical book project was on medieval medicine, and Adam had actually spent a night there to get a feel for the place.
