Halloween

Halloween is not such a big holiday here. No kids wandering around on 31 October, no costumes or school parades, and no candy handouts. On the plus side, All Saints Day (Nov 1) is a national holiday and the shops and schools are closed, so we had a little break in the middle of the week. Halloween is SUCH a big holiday in Bexley that the combination of photos of friends in costume from Ohio plus the lack of celebration here provoked some hot tears of homesickness for the first time in a while. (Or, we're hitting the wall with school, language and other challenges after about 3 months...). There was a celebration near the town hall called "Mexican Fiesta Halloween 2017," which included a bouncy house and churros and some children performing in day-of-the-dead/skeleton costumes. Despite the lack of action, the kids schemed about their costumes for weeks, and even if it was less exciting than normal, they very much enjoyed getting dressed up together. Aunt Jess also got in on the action!
