Gypsy Queens
In the first few weeks we were here, Joe drove me up to Granada to buy a
relatively inexpensive (but very playable) Ibanez acoustic guitar for
the year, and I've been trying to practice a bit.
Last night, a friend of Joe's named Jim invited me up to his (and his wife Maria's) place in the hills to play guitar. With another friend Carly, we want to start a cover band -- for now we are calling ourselves the Gypsy Queens. Jim has worked out some complicated parts of songs, and Joe of course knows his way up and down a fret board. It was a great time singing and playing together on the terrace overlooking Almuñécar (see view, below).
There were some other friends there, too, including a couple visiting from Montana -- Ben and Julie. A very likable pair of people. Julie works in marketing (she was emphasizing the importance of "THE" Ohio State University to this cynical faculty member :) ) and is full of upbeat energy. Ben is laid back and easy going. Though we talked for a while, I never really heard what he did for a living. But at some point near the end of the evening he turned around his iPad from across the terrace to show that he'd been working on something:
