El Camino De Los Cohorros

[Cy writes]

Hello again!!! Today I will tell you about our hike that we did recently  with… Joe, Eva, and Dom! We started driving to the hiking place which is called, “El Camino De Los Cohorros” in a town called Monachil which is outside Granada in the mountains. We were driving there. It was an hour long ride. When we arrived, we started out in a biome that was foresty. It was a beautiful sight at the beginning besides the often splotches of dog poop. There was a river going alongside us during the whole time. Unfortunately, no one brought bathing suits. It was so tempting to just go… WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! And dive in. but no, we couldn’t because it was a hike and we did not want to get our shoes wet because we would have soggy shoes for the rest of the hike. It was too bad for us.

It was a topsy-turvy path with lots of stairs. Not too many though. When there were stairs (which was rare), there were very long flights of them. It was a dirt path. A little farther in there were very old rickety bridges that were super scary to cross. There were broken boards and holes on them which made it seem like a movie. It wasn’t a movie though, it was real life. we stopped for a snack at a rock next to the path. we had mandarin oranges, nuts, trail mix and some chips. as we started up again we saw a hole in the rocks very nearby that the kids could climb through. Dominic crawled through a different hole in the rock while Eva, Charlotte, and I climbed through the first one we saw. inside, there was another cave. we saw a log inside. there was also a river running through holes in the walls. we picked up the log and put it across the stream. Charlotte went first. she balanced across and went on the other side. then Eva and I got Dominic. Then I went across the log. I did the same thing as Charlotte. Then Dominic. Then Eva. At the other side, Dominic went back. Eva, Charlotte and I, went a little farther in. Then, I saw a little hole in the ceiling. there were some rocks we could climb on to get out the top. I went first. Above it, there was a rock floating in the air with not very much to support it. We could see our parents from where we were and they could see us.

We climbed back down and got Dominic. It was an amazing view from up there. It had a forest, and lots of sand (as in desert nearby) and water. (as in rivers). so when Dominic came up his reaction was, “Wow! this is the prettiest thing ever!” we all laughed and went back to our parents. we kept hiking on.

We crossed another rickety bridge that went over a river which made us all scared that we would fall. but luckily it was short. actually, unlucky! we should not have thought we were lucky to have survived for the next bridge right in front of the short one was so long that we did not see the end! AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! and there was a huge pit thing at the bottom. there were even rules about going on! there could be only 4 people on at a time and you had to have a good grip on the very loose railings. Our family wanted to be careful so we went two at a time. Dominic and I went first. When we got over, the first thing we said at the exact same moment was..., “i am glad to be alive!” Eva was coming up behind us and laughed really hard but she said, “me too!” then Charlotte and uncle Joe came, and then my mom and dad. after that hard experience we wanted to get as far away from it as possible so we kept walking. we stopped at a nice little rock farther ahead. we ate some more and then did some rock jumping games. then my mom said, “time to turn around!” we were ok with that because it meant we would go back to that pretty rock until we got to the long bridge again. “NOOOO!” all the kids yelled. then we went in the same pattern back. the we crossed the short bridge and the we went back to the caves where we hid until the grown-ups called through the hold, “time to go!” so we went.

And then Dom realized he needed to poop. so us kids and Joe rushed back the way we hiked up and my parents came slower behind. but they were still quick. we got back to the car and drove to a restaurant. it was closed. we drove home (one hour) and Dom went to the bathroom. then all seven of us went to a restaurant/bar place. i got french fries and pork because that was the only thing we saw on the menu that i liked. we ate our food and then went home and went to bed.

The rock area described in detail by Cyrus above.

So nice to get to do this (hike, also year) together with Joe

Piers struggled in some of the rock tunnels, because his prescription sunglasses were too dark to see.
The rock walls had handles in some places.

Crawling was the only option in the locations which did not have a handle to hold.

  2. You are brave! I'm not sure I would have had the "nerve" to cross that rickety bridge. And If Dave was with me, he would take one look and turn around to go in the opposite direction!! You guys have a lot of spunk! Looks like you had loads of fun on your adventure!
